He humorously described himself as "superficial and droll," yet his work, created from the 1950s until the early 21st century, tells a richer story. Often overwhelmed by the rapid pace of his success, many of his unpublished works are featured in this book. He wrote, "My pictures are little black and white pebbles that I dropped on my way to adulthood, meant for leading me back to my adolescence."
