Photographs by Andreas Gefeller | Photo Book
Based on the series Supervisions, which he began in 2002, the photo artist Andreas Gefeller (*1970) has expanded his concept to include new aspects. He systematically scans surfaces - mostly in urban spaces - from a low height by digitally combining hundreds of individual shots to create monumental images. The visual inventory, which meticulously captures details and spatial relationships, remains without a central focus and fluctuates irritatingly between two and three-dimensionality. In his most recent works, Gefeller provides new insights, for example by directing his gaze upwards to further heighten the optical illusion, or by using variable factors such as time and movement to break the perception of a supposedly perfect, perspectively correct composition.
Gefeller succeeds in presenting the photographic record of the visible as an impossible view.
