Inez van Lamsweerde (*1963) is one of the best-known representatives of crossover. Her playing field lies where fashion and art meet. The Dutch artist has become known for her digitally processed glossy portraits, images that work with an irritating mixture of attractiveness and outlandishness. For example, she removes the stubble from her male models at the click of a mouse and gives them manicured female hands.
The photo book with works by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin was created as part of the “Photographs” exhibition in Florence. Their photographs revolve around the theme of beauty, an artificial, exaggerated and surreal beauty. By digitally altering the models depicted, the photographs have an irritating, repulsive, yet fascinating and attractive effect on the viewer.
