The Chinese by Liu Zheng | Photo Book

€15,13

Since 1994, Chinese artist Liu Zheng has been working on his ambitious photographic project The Chinese, capturing a country in a time of great change. Inspired by photographers like August Sander and Diane Arbus, Liu focuses on archetypal Chinese figures in extreme or unexpected situations. His work covers diverse subjects, including street eccentrics, homeless children, transvestite performers, drug traffickers, coal miners, Buddhist monks, prison inmates, Taoist priests, wax figures in museums, and the dead and dying. This is the first monograph of his work to be published outside of China, revealing his dark yet compassionate vision.
